Petrol Prices

If you’ve ever wondered about petrol prices in other countries, here is a brief international comparison.

We’ll look at petrol prices in the most popular countries for British emigrants – Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, Canada, the USA and Italy.

Petrol prices in all comparison countries were lower than British prices. The average price in the UK today is around 89 – 91 pence per litre.

Looking abroad, petrol was cheapest in some US cities (under 40 pence per litre) and most expensive in Italy (104 pence per litre).

There Are 3 Responses So Far. »

  1. People forget all too easily the huge competitive disadvatange high energy taxes impose on EU countries.

  2. i drive a taxi and the yanks have got it made. cheaper petrol, cheaper cars and better tips!

  3. Knowing nothing about Spain or Italy, we have registered our car here in France (not cheap, and based on engine size). Comparing the petrol price with that in the UK should then take into account the fact that the road tax (paid annually in UK) is now included in the fuel costs. We effectively pay “by the kilometre” which, as a pensioner, I feel is fairer.
