Jobs Abroad – The Best Countries to Find Work

Many economies are easing out of recession, or in some cases growing rather quickly.

For Britons hoping to move abroad, there are a number of countries where employers’ hiring intentions are considerably more favourable than those in the UK according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

Terms, conditions and salaries for employees in those countries with the best hiring intentions may be less than most UK workers are used to. The top countries for employment prospects in Q3 2010 are India, Brazil, Taiwan, China and Peru.

The outlook in the UK according to Manpower, based on a survey of 2,100 employers, is +1 percent, meaning a net 1% of UK employers will be seeking to employ new staff in the third quarter.

The outlook in those English speaking countries that traditionally act as magnets for UK workers is much better.

Australia
In Australia over 2,200 employers were surveyed. The employment outlook in Australia was +24 percent. Regionally, Western Australian employers had the most optimistic hiring plans, at +37 percent. The most positive sectors for jobs were Transport & Utilities sector, +33%; Mining, 31%; Construction +27% and Finance/Insurance/Real Estate, +28%.

New Zealand
In New Zealand over 630 employers were surveyed. The employment outlook was +22 percent. The most positive sectors for jobs were Manufacturing at +24% and Services at +23%. According to Mr Lincoln Crawley, Managing Director, Manpower Australia & New Zealand, the news is likely to get better for job seekers.

“New Zealand, like many other parts of the world, is facing chronic skills shortages in several industries, some of which didn’t disappear even during recession. Employers in these areas need to start building new strategies that allow them to cope with these shortages for the long term,” said Mr Crawley.

Canada
In Canada over 1,900 employers were surveyed. The employment outlook was +10 percent. The most positive sectors for jobs were Mining at +19% and Construction at +15%. Regionally, employers in Atlantic at +14% and Western Canada at +14% anticipated the most positive hiring. The outlook in Ontario was + 12% and Quebec 6%.

United States of America
In the USA over 18,000 employers were surveyed. The employment outlook was +6 percent. Ninety-eight percent of U.S. states have a positive hiring Outlook and 95 of the nation’s 100 largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas have a positive Outlook for Quarter 3 2010.

The most positive sectors for jobs were Leisure & Hospitality at +20% and Mining at +17%. The outlook was negative for Education & Health Services and Government. Employers in the Northeast of America have the most favourable hiring intentions, with a Net Employment Outlook of +9%.
