Employer confidence in the Australian telecommunications sector is at record levels says the latest Hudson Employment Expectations survey. 45.8% of businesses are expecting to increase permanent employment levels over the next quarter.

Martin Retschko, Director IT&T Sector at Hudson Australia, said the record high employer confidence levels are a good indication of the current strength in the telecommunications sector. “Employer confidence is being driven by continued high adoption rates of technology at the consumer, corporate and government levels, as well as a number of major projects driving demand for both contract and permanent resources,” said Mr Retschko.

“In addition, the increase in demand for temporary and contract employees shows employers are under pressure to get immediate results and fill positions not easily sourced through the permanent recruitment market,” said Retschko.

The highest level of employer optimism was for professional services at 55.4%, for the 6th quarter in a row. Buoyant market conditions have have resulted in increased activity in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and private equity, driving more business to legal, accounting and consulting firms.

The construction/property/engineering industry showed the second highest level of optimism at 48.9%. This high level of optimism is being driven by growth in the construction of retail buildings, commercial developments and infrastructure supporting the resources boom.
