More Jobs Advertised in Australia
The average number of jobs advertised each week in Australia rose to 220,754 in March 2007 - 25 percent more jobs than were advertised than in March 2006.
The good news for people in the UK is that the increase in job ads was entirely due to more ads appearing on the internet, where they are more readily seen by overseas job hunters. 200,600 Australian jobs were advertised on the internet each week in March 2007.

(ANZ Job Ad Series)
ANZ Head of Australian Economics Tony Pearson said:
“With the labour market so tight, there is intense interest in the demand for labour. The ANZ Job Advertisements series continues to be a reliable indicator of trends in this area. Trend data show the demand for labour picked up in the second half of 2006 but eased slightly in the first three months of 2007. Nevertheless, demand for labour remains at a high level and the data suggest there will be an acceleration in employment growth over coming months. There is little prospect of an easing in labour market conditions in the short term, which will keep policy makers alert to the emergence of wages pressures.”
