New Zealand: Government Immigration Jobs Website Flounders

NetworkZonline.govt.nz is aimed at immigrants looking for work and is intended to match employers and employees.

Today there were 6040 people looking for work, but just two advertised vacancies.

“I am astounded that Immigration New Zealand has spent more than $1 million to set up a job website for migrants which currently features only two vacancies,” says Pansy Wong for the main opposition National Party.

“Adding insult to injury, the Immigration Minister is now spending $2 million to attract IT specialists because New Zealand has a shortage, yet he appears to be ignoring the 1087 computer specialists who are looking for work on NewtworkZ Online.

“With only two advertisers, employers clearly don’t think the website works. The Government isn’t even leading by example – are there no job vacancies from any of their departments!

“In addition to the set up costs taxpayers are spending $86,400 a year to keep the website working. This has to be New Zealand’s most expensive and ineffective job agency,” says Mrs Wong.
