Ontario Posts Pictures Of Absent Parents

The Ontario government has a new website.

goodparentspay.com, shows pictures of parents who have disappeared and are no longer paying child support. The government hopes the website will help in tracking down irresponsible parents.

According to the site, “The individuals posted on this website are registered with the Family Responsibility Office (FRO), have not made their court-ordered support payments and cannot be found.”

There are currently 18 pictures of absent dads on the site, with their last known locations, height, weight, eye colour, usual job, etc.

Minister of Community and Social Services Madeleine Meilleur commented, “Children should not suffer because of a parent who refuses to live up to his or her financial responsibilities. Good parents pay child support. For those who don’t, we want to make things very clear: we will find you and we will make sure your children get the support they deserve.”

Renate Diorio of Families Against Deadbeats said, “We are thrilled that this government is taking the necessary steps to ensure that more children receive the support to which they are entitled. We all have to work together when it comes to our children’s welfare.”

The site also allows people to submit information about “deadbeat” parents anonymously.
